Natural Reserve
Reunion is an island that is committed to the protection of its natural heritage, a protection that takes place both in the sea and on land. This is why a natural marine reserve was created in 2004 to preserve, get to know and promote the marine fauna and flora. This reserve stretches over more than 40 km, it goes from Cap la Houssaye to Saint-Paul to the Roche aux Oiseaux at Etang-Salé. The reserve is home to a rich ecosystem that is home to many species of all kinds including endemic species of Reunion Island and the Indian Ocean. There is a marked trail in the water especially in the lagoon of the Hermitage, with buoys indicating a discovery area, you can visit it alone or accompanied by a guide with fins mask and snorkel. An educational and tourist initiative that has allowed the marine reserve to win in 2013 in the category “Education and Awareness” the Palme IFRECOR.
