The Piton de la Fournaise
Emblematic site of Reunion Island, the Piton de la Fournaise is the number one destination for all nature lovers. This immense 500,000-year-old massif culminates at more than 2,631 metres and offers us a majestic spectacle every nine months on average when it erupts. Since 2014, the Piton de la Fournaise has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its exceptional universal value, an honorary title that is the pride of the island. This marvel is not only to be visited during eruptions, indeed the Piton offers all kinds of activities, hiking with landscapes worthy of being on Mars, caving in the caves created by the lava flows and even a museum for the most curious. To reach it, there are 2 roads by the North or the East passing by Saint-Benoît then the Plaine des Palmistes, Plaines des Cafres up to the village of Bourg Murat and by the West or the South by the Tampon direction the Plaine des Cafres up to the city of the volcano.
